Following negotiations spread over several meetings between Parliament, Council and the Commission, no agreement could be reached on Wednesday on the draft multiannual plan for fisheries in the Baltic Sea to ensure the sustainable exploitation of fish stocks and offer fishermen increased predictability over the long run.
Eight years after they were awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament, the Cuban Ladies in White (Damas de Blanco) have finally come to Brussels to collect their award. Damas de Blanco was formed in early 2004 in Cuba as a spontaneous movement of wives and female relatives of jailed dissidents. They are not a political party or bound to a political organisation of any type.
