Fisheries MEPs approved today the agreement on a multiannual plan for the management of the Baltic Sea cod, sprat and herring stocks reached with Council on 15 March.

This is the first such plan under the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and it will ensure the sustainability of fisheries and offer fishermen better economic conditions in the long run.  You can find more information in the press release published following the agreement.

The multispecies management plan includes the setting of fishing ranges and the inclusion of several safeguard measures in order to achieve a balanced and sustainable exploitation of these fish stocks and to guarantee the stability of the fishing opportunities and of the livelihoods of fishermen.
