Cohesion Policy after 2020

The EPP Group will hold a public hearing on 'Cohesion Policy post-2020: Investments and solidarity in the context of the new EU budget', on Wednesday 26 September in the European Parliament, Brussels. The Co-Rapporteurs on the Common Provisions Regulation, and leading international organisations like Eurocities, CEMR and the EIB will be there to answer questions on European integration and Cohesion Policy post-2020. The Croatian Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds will participate at the hearing. How to improve the visibility of the European added value will be presented by representatives of the European Commission and academia. How interregional cooperation should be adjusted to tackle the challenges of globalisation’s impact on European regional development, is one of the important subjects of the hearing. You can find the programme here.

2019 EU Budget Committee vote

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Budgets Committee will vote on the 2019 EU Budget, ahead of the vote scheduled for the October II plenary session. José Manuel Fernandes MEP, the EPP Group's Spokesman in the Budgets Committee, stated: “We want a budget focused on growth, security, youth and migration. We need to revert the Council’s disappointing position of under-financing next year’s resources. The Union needs to have the necessary means to tackle the challenges ahead.”

Stopping illegal trafficking of cultural goods

The black market of antiquities and cultural goods constitutes one of the most persistent illegal trades in the world. For the moment, there is no EU legislation covering the import of cultural goods from third countries entering the EU (except for Syria and Iraq). The Commission has proposed measures to contain the illegal trafficking of cultural goods. The EPP Group supports the proposal, all the more as 2018 is the European year of cultural heritage. It is vital, however, to strike a balance between the measures to be taken for the protection of cultural heritage and the measures to be taken by the art market. The vote will take place at a joint meeting of the Committees on International Trade and on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection on Thursday.
