EPP Group prioritises fight against cancer

The EPP Group will hold a conference discussing solutions in the fight against cancer. Cancer is one of the main health challenges many Europeans face: almost one in three Europeans will develop cancer in their lifetime. In its recently-adopted position paper on cancer, the EPP Group commits to doing everything in its power to ensure that nobody dies from cancer in the EU 20 years from now. The conference will take place on Wednesday 27 June from 14.30 to 16.00 in Room JAN 2Q2, European Parliament, Brussels.

Facebook under scrutiny once again

After the hearing with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and the first hearing within the LIBE, AFCO, JURI and ITRE Committees, a second hearing will take place on Monday 25 June which will focus on the use of Facebook users’ data by Cambridge Analytica and its impact on data protection. The EPP Group will continue to insist that Facebook takes the necessary measures to prevent the breach of European citizens’ data and to make the public understand how data is used by Facebook. One company alone should not decide who is visible on social media and who is not.

Situation in Hungary

Members of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee will vote on the Report on the situation in Hungary. The vote will take place on Monday 25 June.

The role of intercultural dialogue in EU international relations

The EPP Group will host a seminar on 'The role of intercultural dialogue in EU international relations' on Wednesday 27 June 2018 at 16.00 hrs in Brussels. Constructive dialogue between different socio-religious communities plays a crucial role today, not only from a cultural and spiritual point of view, but also in social, political and international relations, taking on particular importance in processes of integration and pacification. Professors Ennio Grassi, Natalino Valentini and Massimiliano Zarri will discuss these issues with EPP Group Members and Maronite Archibishop of Alep, Mons. Joseph Tobji, and other high-ranking European representatives from religious organisations. The seminar will be hosted by György Holvényi MEP and Jan Olbrycht MEP, co-chairs of the EPP Group Working Group on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue.
