WORKSHOP (Monday at 15.00)

Landing Obligation and Choke Species in Multispecies and Mixed Fisheries

One of the main novelties of the reform of the CFP of 2013 is to phase out discards by 1 January 2019 at the latest. This landing obligation has led the member states to review their approach to fisheries management in accordance with their national quotas. This new scenario creates the need for more selective gear and instruments to reduce the effect of the absence of quotas for certain species which would lead to the early closure of certain fisheries, so-called "The choking effect".

The workshop will deal with three geographical areas of the EU: the North Sea; Northern Western waters and Southern Western waters. Three different studies were conducted and each project seeks to achieve results in each of the three geographical zones.

Programme of the workshop
