Four young Europeans, Ana from Spain, Elena from Italy, Ilona from Poland and Larkin from Malta, will join EU leaders in Oslo for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. They won the drawing and writing contest organised by the EU institutions, in partnership with the European Youth Forum, on the occasion of the award of the Nobel Peace prize to the European Union.
The members of the European People’s Party (EPP) Political Assembly discussed the rule of law in Poland and the political situation of the country at its meeting in Warsaw. In the margins of the meeting, EPP President Joseph Daul made the following statement:
“You have to be able to persuade, coax and cajole sometimes reluctant institutions to change long-standing mind-sets or to be more open in their decision making," said European ombudsman Emily O'Reilly. "This is where being an ombudsman can seem more like an art than a science." Elected by MEPs in July 2013, the former Irish national ombudsman is the first female European ombudsman. We talked to her about her first year in office.
