Petitions
Any citizen of the European Union, whether residing or not on the territory of any Member State, is entitled to submit, either individually or in association with others, a petition to the Parliament on matters which come within the Community’s fields of activity and affect the petitioners directly. The right to petition, guaranteed by the Treaty, is given also to companies/partnerships, organizations and associations residing in the EU.
Petitions may take a form of request or complaint, and may concern issues of the public or private nature.
The petition may include an individual proposal, complaint or commentary on the Union’s law, or may call on the EP to take a stand in a given situation. Petitions draw the EP’s attention to cases when a Member State, local authorities or institutions infringe the European citizens’ rights.
